Therapy for perfectionism and procrastination

Perfectionism often starts early in life. Maybe your caregivers had high expectations, or you felt you needed to excel to gain their approval or in order to fit in with your community and peers. These early experiences can create deep-seated fears of failure and a need for control, driving your perfectionistism today. Interestingly, perfectionism can also lead to procrastination. The fear of not being able to achieve perfection can make it hard to start or complete tasks.

In psychoanalytic work, we'll explore these childhood experiences and uncover the unconscious motivations, societal and cultural influences behind your perfectionism and procrastination.

In short, our work will center on self-acceptance, while moving away from all-or-nothing thinking. Together, we’ll help you become comfortable with uncertainty, set realistic goals, manage anxiety and stress, and overcome procrastination, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
