Individual Family Therapy
Working through family dynamics in psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a journey into understanding how your early childhood experiences and family dynamics shape who you are today. This therapy delves into both your cultural and historical background as well as your unconscious mind, helping you uncover hidden influences that affect your behavior and relationships. I have a particular interest and experience working with only children and children with substantial age gaps between siblings.
Together, we’ll explore memories and emotions tied to your family, gaining insights into how these early dynamics play out in your current life. You'll work through these discoveries to foster emotional healing, improve your relationships, and achieve personal growth.
In addition, we will address common issues like parent-child relationships, sibling dynamics, and family roles, and tackle any trauma or significant losses you've experienced. I use techniques like free association, dream analysis, and interpreting defenses, all within the safe space of the therapeutic relationship. In addition to family dynamics, your cultural background and socioeconomic status play crucial roles in shaping your experiences and perspectives. These factors influence family expectations, communication styles, and values, adding layers of complexity to your personal history. I am sensitive to these these influences to provide a more comprehensive understanding of your experience and to ensure the therapy is sensitive to your unique context.
The ultimate goal is to help you understand and work with family dynamics, leading to a healthier, more fulfilling emotional life and better connections with those around you.
